Krzysztof Michalski is a laureate of the ARD International Music Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and several other major international competitions, including the David Geringas, Zoltán Kodály, Buchet, and Johansen International Competition.

His career as a soloist has taken him across Europe and South America, where he has collaborated with leading ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Belgian National Orchestra, the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), and the Orchestre de Chambre de Wallonie.

Equally at home on the festival stage, Krzysztof has appeared in settings ranging from La Roque d’Anthéron and La Folle Journée in Nantes and Tokyo to Les Moments Musicaux de La Baule, the Deauville Festival, the Krzysztof Penderecki Festival, Les Impromptus, and Spannungen in Heimbach. In 2023, he opened the concert “Martha Argerich and Friends play for Brussels” with Chopin’s Sonata for Cello and Piano.

Recent seasons have brought him to some of Europe’s most distinguished halls and festivals, among them the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Philharmonie de Paris, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle, the Berliner Dom, Munich’s Künstlerhaus and Herkulessaal, and the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele. During this period, he also toured Hungary with Schumann’s Cello Concerto, performed with the French Republican Guard Orchestra, and appeared at the Easter Festival in Aix-en-Provence and Deauville. His recital at NOSPR with harpist Alexandra Bidi led to the recording of their duo album, featuring works by Schubert, Debussy, and Fauré, to be released in early 2027. He has also collaborated with Yulianna Avdeeva and joined a concert tour with Renaud Capuçon.

Upcoming engagements include invitations to perform and teach at the Taiwan Cello Festival 2026, as well as appearances at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, La Chaise-Dieu, and La Chaux-de-Fonds.

He is currently completing a Master’s degree in cello at the CNSMDP with Edgar Moreau and Cyril Lacrouts, alongside studies at the Pernoo School of Musical Performance with Jérôme Pernoo. His earlier training includes studies with Diana Ligeti, Claire Oppert, Aleksandr Khramouchin, Vladimir Perlin, Henryk Zarzycki, Claus Reichardt, Renata Gąsiorek, and Beata Roman.

Deeply committed to chamber music, Krzysztof is also pursuing a second Master’s degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) in the class of François Salque, working in sonata repertoire with pianist Antonin Bonnet as well as in a trio with Iris Scialom and Nicolas Bourdoncle. He has performed alongside artists such as Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff, Rachel Roberts, Eliane Reyes, Claire Désert, Hana Chang, Jan Larsen, and Yanjun Chen. From 2015 to 2017, he served as principal cellist of the Lusławice Talent Orchestra at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music.

His artistic development has been supported by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Safran Foundation, the El Pasito Foundation and the Académie de Villecroze, the Morningside Music Bridge program, and the Pro Musica Bona Foundation. He currently plays a R. & A. Gagliano cello on a kind loan from the Polish National Collection.
